The 2022/23 Premier League season drew to a close, announcing the final two verdicts in the relegation battle and the race for European places.
Everton got the win they needed to stay upHowever, things did not go smoothly thanks to a goal from Abdoulaye Doucour in the second half.
As Leicester took the lead in their game, Everton fans briefly dwelt on the scenario that they could go under until Doucoure upset Goodison Park. An important stoppage-time save by Jordan Pickford prevented a late Bournemouth goal that would have brought Everton down.
I'm going to the championshipSouthamptonwill beLeeds Unitedand former Premier League championsLeicester City. A faltering defense cost Leeds another loss to Spurs on the final day of the game, a 3-1 defeat a microcosm of their campaign. And Leicester were sorely lacking in security, leaving their fans confused at their club's rapid decline.
Aston Villasecured last place in Europe by beating Brighton at home. That secured 7th place and a spot in the 2023-24 Conference League for a team that was once in the relegation zone. Villa finished ahead of Spurs and Brentford, both of whom finished outside of Europe.

Finale:And that's it. Abdoulaye Doucoure's goal was enough to keep Everton on the ball. Leicester were preparing to stay up, but Everton's win ended their hopes. Jordan Pickford saved the win with a stoppage-time save.
Aston Villa's win secured seventh place and Unai Emery capped a sensational lead that propelled the Villans from the relegation zones to Europe.
Brentford ended his season with the double against Man City. Meanwhile, Arsenal beat Wolves, Roberto Firmino scored in his last Liverpool appearance and Harry Kane reached the 30-goal mark.
85.:As long as Everton wins, they're safe. As long as Villa wins, they secure their place in the Conference League. We've come to the last five minutes of the season.
78.: SOU-LIV, ARS-WOL-goals.Liverpool managed 4-4 at St Mary's while Arsenal scored five goals against Wolves.
66.: LEI-WHU target.A goal from Wout Faes means Leicester are on course to play their part and win the game. But they need Bournemouth to score against Everton to stay on top. They need Everton to drop points.
Southampton extended their lead against Liverpool, Arsenal also added another, Man United prevailed against Fulham and Crystal Palace equalized in a game against Forest that means little.
60.: EVE BOU target. It's Abdoulaye Doucoure firing a shot from the top of the box and they would be safe if that result lasts and Leicester and Leeds go down.
49.: LEE-TOT target.Things are looking bleak for Leeds who are now 2-0 at home to Spurs after a goal from Pedro Porro. It appears that Leeds will line up for the Championship alongside Southampton and another team.
48.: SOU-LIV-Target.The first goal of the second half went to Southampton, who came from 2-0 down at home to take a 3-2 lead.
halftime
halftime:As things stand, Leicester City would be safe (thanks to Harvey Barnes' goal) as Everton and Leeds would go down while Aston Villa would cling to bottom of the Conference League.
Notable features of that first half included Harry Kane scoring again (No. 29 of the season) and Roberto Firmino scoring one in his last game for Liverpool.
43. Minute:AVL BRI target.Deniz Undav scores for Brighton with a glorious ball from Julio Enciso and Aston Villa are yet to make up their minds in their European bid.
36. Minute: LEI-WHU target.Harvey Barnes gives Leicester a 1-0 lead and with Everton tied 0-0, Everton are down with Leeds at this point.
30. Minute:SOU-LIV, ARS-WOL, CHE-NEW goals. They score free points in the games that don't affect the standings, while Aston Villa lead the game against Brighton 2-0.
17. Minute: ARS-WOL, SOU-LIV targets.Arsenal quickly take a two-goal lead thanks to Granit Xhaka, while Roberto Firmino scored in his last game to double Liverpool's advantage.
10. Minute:CHE-NEUE, SOU-LIV goals. In games that are of no serious importance to the table, Anthony Gordon scored the opener for the Magpies and Diogo Jota netted for Liverpool.
8. Minute:AVL BRI target. Aston Villa take the lead ahead of Brighton through a goal from Douglas Luiz. And a win would secure them a spot in the Conference League.
2. Min.:We kick off on all pitches. And there is an early goal for Leeds, Harry Kane scores straight away.
